Proximity to San Jose,
coupled with the attractiveness of its wide sandy bay,
explains Jaco beach's popularity with Costa Rica's
middle class. Surfers also like its strong waves. More than
50 hotels and cabins reside behind its gray-sand beach, but
the development is hidden behind palms. The long, wide beach
offers privacy if you stroll away from the crowds. The
town's main drag is alive with restaurants, moped-rentals,
mini-golf and souvenir shops, and nightlife options abound.
Jaco is about 2.5 hours from San Jose in the central
Pacific.
